Hello! Today I'm going to show you how to make a pop up effect with Gimp. This is a quicker tutorial, so you know.
The first step is actually opening up the image you want to put the subject inside of. So, I'll type Ctrl+o, or go to File-Open. Now select this image you want and click OK. This image is a computer.
Add an alpha channel to the computer layer by right clicking it and clicking Add Apha Channel. Now grab the Paths tool and go around the screen, until you get to the end. Remember to hold Ctrl on your keyboard, then clicking. Press Delete on your keyboard or if you have a Mac computer go to Edit-Clear. Now instead of the screen, their is a checkerboard.
Now open up the other image by typing Ctrl+Alt+o, or go to File-Open as Layers. Again, grab the image you want. I have an image I already edited, so this picture is kind of fake.
Now, drag the image underneath the computer image.
Turn down the opacity of the computer layer to see the whole subject, but still see the computer. Use the Move tool, and the Scale tool to move and size the image to a good place, but make sure that part of the image needs to come off the computer.
Grab the Paths tool again and make a selection around the part of the image that needs to come out. Also select part of the inside of the area inside the computer. Press Enter on your keyboard.
Now click DElete on your keyboard. Turn back up the opacity. Now you have a pop out effect on Gimp.
If you want, you can merge the layers together. Right click on the computer layer and click Merge Down.
